i never thought i'd see the day when my dad had more hair than my mom...
but 18 sessions of chemo since the beginning of may will do that you, i suppose. all things considered, i think she's doing amazingly well and looks awesome.
in a few weeks she has a dr's appointment to check and see if the treatment worked. fingahs, toes and eyes crossed. in the meantime, here's to one of the strongest people i've ever met. i'm so proud of all the hard work you've done, mum... and i sure do love you :)

home again, home again
it was a pretty uneventful day of traveling on my way back to boston today. i did get upgraded to bidness class from merida to houston since the flight was oversold, so that was a nice little early am surprise. the only other excitement during the trek home involved the bat that was flying around the baggage claim area in terminal C. yes, a real bat. good thing the national guard is on hand at the moment to control the ensuing rabies-tainted chaos.
so here are the highlights from the pics:
the office in merida:
my new co-workers:
chichen itza (mayan ruins):
i was sweating it out with mi amiga, kristin :)
luis' gorgeous beach house in progreso:
one of his adorable sons and an even cuter niece, edwina:
sunset in progreso:
all the fixins for a vegan dinner... mushrooms and wine...
an amazing freshwater cenote (kinda like an underground swimming pool:
me showing off my ability to not drown:
and a little ditty from the plane this morning:
next stop costa rica.... :)

vino blanco
last night luis (the guy who runs the office down here) took us to his house on the beach to enjoy the sunset and hang out with his family and friends.
it was an amazing night- so beautiful out and so much fun. worth every dull aching moment of today's hangover ;)
a few pics for you... thankfully they were taken before our sabadogigantefleshwounds erupted, courtesy of the highoctane mosquitos which abound. yes, even at the beach.
today was the end of training- it was supposed to last until tomorrow, but we finished up a little early. so tonight we're all going out for dinner and i'm sure tomorrow i'll be walking around in a 2 day hangover fog. kristin and i are leaving in the morning to visit chichin itza (mayan ruins) so it should be a fun day. besides, nothing cures a hangover like trekking around ancient ruins under the blazing sun with our livers in our backpacks.
and then it's back to boston on sunday. i'll post more pics as soon as i get back.

6p tortillas and salsa
and then it was my favorite part of the day. 6pm es tiempo para tortillas, salsa y cerveza. the work day is over and dinner is at least 3 hours away, so that all leads to a whole lotta snacking...
i'm the wickidsmaht one who brought the laptop and digital camera thinking i would take pics and blog every day. except i forgot the usb cable for the digital camera. so any and all visual aids are on you until i get back to boston. carry on.
merida has been good so far. it's nice to be bonding with the new coworkers and being eaten alive by the mosquitos *inside* the office. i've taken to rubbing my limbs in local no-name tequila... takes care of mosquitoes and has also removed all that unwanted bodyhair. now that's one stop shopping.
last night we ate at this place called 'india bar.' so i get all worked up into a chickpealather during the day at the thought of indian food that night. we arrive to find the place bursting with all things bhindi decor... excellent, excellent. sit down, order bears... open menus- not a single item of indian food to be found. chinese- of course. italian, why not? and mexican- naturally. but sadly, not a chaana nor a bharta to be found. i think i've officially eaten 20lbs of avocado by now.
i did have time to check in at cnn.com and boston.com today and was happy to see it was an eventful day of happenings up north. :
in the news-
3 new planets
182 people on a united flight diverted en route from london to DC due to 1 bathroom frequenting crazy with hand cream and a pack of matches
and 1 dead mystery beast in maine
with all that news i hope there was still time for traffic and weather ;)
alrighty- time to get ready for dinner.

mornin'
i'm just about packed up and ready to head off to merida again. my flight is at 1.30p today, so i've decided to leave the house 3 hours early in preparation for the cirque de securite. i've been drinking water non stop this morning. and i also ate a whole stick of chapstick, since i'm about to be cut off from the gel-like comfort i treasure most.
i'm still not convinced that my chapped lips are an issue of national security, but i guess i'll just roll with it today.
i'm brining the laptop to merida this time, so hopefully i'll have some time for bloggin' in the evenings... stay tuned.
otherwise, no huge news- it was a lovely weekend. j.mo and i had a proper date-night and saw a movie (quinceanera) and had awesome food at border cafe. i think i ate my weight in chips'n'guac. we also got to hang out with maggie and jon, recently returned from the UK.
oh yeah- and friday night with froggie and throwing muses was awesome. it was the perfect weekend for all these happenings- lovely and warm. froggie and i walked all the way from cambridge to dorchester after the show on friday night. bliss!
i'm off- hope everyone has a good monday.
biglove,

classic
so after a long monday at work it was time for an hour of jogging... and then a shower... and then the classiest post-workout snack ever. i mean evuh:
nothing says class quite like the one and only classic lays potato chips. and champagne. with ice in it.
gatorade is for amateurs.
(true story)
it's been another impressive 'more-than-a-week-sans-blog.' but i do have pictures to post, so hopefully that counts for something. mexico was good, just a little short. which is fine because i'm on my way down again a week from today- and this time for a whole week.
first stop was texas where everything for sale at the airport reminds all us homos and/or yanks to just keep on movin':
then there was merida. lovely yucatan city not near the beach: translated as it's not near the 1000's of alabamians currently on vacation in can-koon.
oldest spanish church in the americas, crafted from 100% desecrated mayan civilization- those spanish sure were ingenious when it came to building materials.
and inside:
other random pics:
and my new favorite meal- panuchos... thin corn tortialls with a layer of beans in the middle, fried. then topped with fresh avocado, lettuce, tomato and surprisingly yumma pickled onions and served with a flaming hot habanero sauce:
so monday i'm flying back to run the actual training class for a week.
things are busy with a myriad of other stuff- j.mo's still illin', a boozecruise on the harbor tomorrow, the butter queen and good dr return home (finally!) on friday and thursday night my much loved and not all that often seen froggie is coming to town and i'm taking the day off so we can be beach bums and then see throwing muses that night. and maybe we'll lick the spoon.
